Spouting Rock
Spouting Rock thumps softly as the gentle waves flirt along its edges.
Quietly awaiting the eager embrace of the ocean,
As the tide rises toward its steady companion.
It has blackened with age and the passing of time.
Beautiful in silent repose,
Breathtaking in the fury wrought by the sea.
Passed by the unaware,
Eagerly revisited by those who are familiar.
Loyally awaiting the arrival of friends it has not yet met.
Susan Brackett
Spouting Rock is one of those things which must be seen at the right time to get the full effect. When the ocean is calm, Spouting Rock is unremarkable, even unnoticeable. However, when the tide is almost at its highest, and the rhythm of the waves is right, it is a glorious sight. As the waves surge, the water is forced through the opening and the spray soars upward. Of course, what goes up must come down.....Come see.
