Reflections
Cold light of winter's day,
Silent gulls in flight.
Frosty waves upon the shore,
Leave icy bands of white.
Whispers on winter wind,
Echoes of the past.
Lone footprint in the sand,
Whose shadow once was cast?
Barren beach before my eyes,
Once filled with warmth and fun.
Summer days will come again,
Players in the sun.
The builders of the castle,
The seekers of the shell.
Those basking in the sun,
Some who sit a spell.
Laughter of the children,
Romping in the tide.
Lovers walking hand in hand,
Their joy they cannot hide.

Long after we have been present, in some ways, we are still there.
The castles we have built, the footprints we have left.
Listen for the laughter that rings upon the wind.
