Ladies Of The Shore

   Faces raised toward the sun,

Petals, fragile feel.

Gentle in appearance,

Inner strength revealed.

Dainty booted feet,

Stand firmly on the sand.

Eager, hopeful, searching eyes,

Shaded by the hand.

Breeze is softly fragrant,

Lifts the pungent scent of rose.

Warmed by the summer sun,

Her face in sweet repose.

Thoughts are of her husband,

To the sea her eyes are cast.

Yearning for a glimpse,

Of the tip of his tall mast.

Her face is raised toward heaven,

Implores in silent speech,

"Please bring him home to me,

Oh, may he safety reach."

Gulls are her companions,

Finds comfort in the rose.

She will return tomorrow,

A captain of the sea she chose.

Time and tides have passed,

The lady is no more.

Still the roses keep the watch,

Bloom forever more.

Come and revel in the sight,

Their beauty to behold.

See their quiet gentle strength,

The ladies of the shore.
